Character(s) Played: N/A

IC
Name: Lan Xichen (Given name Lan Huan, courtesy name Xichen.)
Canon: Mo Dao Zu Shi / The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
Canon Point: Around the time of the Family Feast extra / post canon.
Age: 38-ish
Appearance: Tall, youthful-looking east Asian man, extremely beautiful, with a gentle expression. Long hair, usually wearing white robes with pale blue cloud patterns and always wearing a white forehead ribbon with cloud pattern. Official art.
Abilities:
- His powers are based on spiritual energy, an inner energy that is developed (cultivated) through processes referred to as inner alchemy. The goal is immortality, but the path to it comes with boons, such as preserving youth, increased speed, strength, senses, moderate control over physical damage that has been caused (including expelling poisons) and moderate immunity to sickness.
- Skills in channeling spiritual energy / qi include creation and use of talismans, creation and maintenance of defensive and offensive arrays, making one's sword fly to ride on as a flying skateboard, limited healing.
- His particular path of it involves using music as a vessel for the powers, which means his music can have various effects (especially but not limited to the undead), including but not limited to: exorcism, pacifying, sealing, bringing mental clarity, bringing mental turmoil. As he is quite powerful with it, this will have a permissions/opt out post.
- His skills include high proficiency in the six arts. He is particularly gifted with painting.
- Does being horrible at chores count as one...? For example, when he tried to wash clothes for the first time, his arm strength made him tear them.

(Optional) Personality:
- Gentle, kind, and considerate. He believes the best of people... to a fault. A very much used-by-the-story fault.
- Stable and calm. A very good mediator, and very good at de-escalating conflict.
- At his canon point, very much broken between two betrayals and the weight of his own choices (yes, he takes more responsibility for more than he should).
- Adores his little brother and tries to make the world a better place for him. It only works... somewhat. He also loves immensely his sworn brothers and their siblings.

History:
Wiki, but in short:
- Elder son of the sect leader for the Gusu Lan sect, and his wife - who was less in love with her husband, and also killed one of his teachers so was basically imprisoned in a house, her sons only allowed to see her once a month, until she passed when Xichen was eight or nine.
- Raised as future clan head as his father was constantly in secluded meditation (see: wife killed his teacher) and so the father's younger brother (Lan Wangji) had to run the sect in his name.
- One of the other prominent sects (Qishan Wen) decides to make a bid for ruling the cultivation world openly when Xichen is around 19. One of their bigger opening moves is to burn Xichen's home (actually making the disciples of the sect burn it). In the kerfuffle, Xichen's father is gravely wounded (and later dies), Xichen runs with a load of precious works from the (about to be burned) library pavilion, and Xichen's younger brother, leg broken, gets sent to Wen reeducation camp (where he and his guy crush - slash - soulmate kill a legendary creature while starving, no big).
- The campaign to bring down the Wens lasts three years and includes the near complete wiping of one of the other great sects, with the two children and one adopted child of the sect leader the only survivors. Said adopted child being Xichen's little brother's crush. One disaster there leads to another and the crush ends up finding a branch of forbidden cultivation, usually referred to as demonic (though it's more about corpses than demons as such).
- After the campaign, Xichen becomes sworn brothers with Nie Mingjue, the sect leader of the Qinghe Nie sect, and Jin Guangyao, one of the (many) illegitimate children of Jin Guangshan (sect leader of Lanling Jin) and also the hand that deals the killing blow to the sect leader of Qishan Wen. Because of, ah, Jin Guangyao's personality flaws and Nie Mingjue's uprightness, Xichen's two sworn brothers are constantly in conflict.
- Within around two years after the end of the campaign against the Wen clan, the majority of the cultivation world turns against the crush and he dies in the process. Xichen's little brother undergoes a heavy punishment for defending his crush at a critical moment and needs about three years to physically recover.
- Around the time of but before the little brother's recovery, Nie Mingjue succumbs to a qi deviation, a rather gruesome way to die. It's later found out to have been at the very least sped up by Jin Guangyao, using an opportunity provided by Xichen and means stolen from Xichen's sect. It is one of the man's many crimes which bring him to the point where no matter how forgiving Xichen might be (and he is forgiving, but also his sect's focus is righteousness), he cannot overlook them.
- Little brother's crush gets brought back to life (not by crush's choice) around 13 years after he died, and he and the little brother go off on a quest to figure out mysteries that lead them to uncover Jin Guangyao's crimes. In the final showdown, Xichen gets tricked by someone else he trusted and stabbing Jin Guangyao through the heart.
- After making sure the fierce undead are safely sealed, Xichen goes into seclusion. He is Not Okay.
